Hidden Gem Hikes in Utah That Aren’t Crowded (Shhh!)

Let’s be real—Utah’s famous trails are stunning, but sometimes you just want the views without the crowds, selfie sticks, or waiting in line to summit. If you’re craving some solitude with your switchbacks, this list of hidden gem hikes around Salt Lake City and nearby areas is your golden ticket to peace, quiet, and killer scenery.

Here are a few lesser-known favorites that locals in the know love (and now, you do too):

Neff’s Canyon Trail (Millcreek)

Tucked behind Olympus Cove, this trail offers forested paths, mountain views, and surprisingly few hikers. Bonus: dog-friendly and wildflower heaven in summer.

Frary Peak (Antelope Island)

Okay, you’ll have to drive a bit north and pay the park fee—but it’s worth it. The lake views, bison sightings, and near-total silence at the top? Chef’s kiss.

Lake Mary via Brighton (Big Cottonwood Canyon)

Everyone flocks to Donut Falls—so sneak off to Lake Mary instead. It’s peaceful, scenic, and you’ll feel like you discovered a secret alpine lake (because you kinda did).

Ghost Falls Trail (Draper)

A gentle, shaded trail with a small waterfall at the end, perfect for families or solo hikers looking to recharge. Located in Corner Canyon, with great mountain biking too!

Alexander Basin Trail (Millcreek Canyon)

Short, steep, and absolutely stunning. This one's for the adventurous souls who don’t mind a bit of elevation gain in exchange for wildflowers, ridgeline views, and almost zero crowds. Pro tip: go early and bring water—your legs will thank you later.

Utah’s secret trails are just one of the many perks of living here—along with epic mountain backdrops, four seasons of adventure, and homes with serious curb appeal.
