The Best Wildflower Hikes in Utah

If you're anything like me, spring means one thing: it’s time to swap out the snow boots for hiking shoes and hit the trails. And when Utah’s wildflowers start showing off? There’s no better reason to lace up.

Whether you're a local or house-hunting in Salt Lake City and beyond, these wildflower hikes offer more than just Instagram-worthy views—they're proof that Utah is the place to plant roots (pun intended 🌱).

1. Albion Basin – Little Cottonwood Canyon

Peak bloom: Mid-to-late July
This one’s a classic, and for good reason. Located at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon, Albion Basin bursts with colorful blooms like lupine, paintbrush, and sunflowers. Bonus: moose sightings are common, and the alpine views are chef’s kiss.

2. Cecret Lake Trail – Alta

Peak bloom: Mid-July
Just a short drive from Salt Lake City, this family-friendly hike is bursting with color. Wildflowers line the trail all the way to a scenic lake surrounded by peaks. Pro tip: go early to snag parking and cooler temps.

3. Red Butte Canyon – Salt Lake City

Peak bloom: Late May–June
Right in the city’s backyard, Red Butte Garden and its adjoining trails offer a blooming experience without a long drive. You’ll find a colorful mix of native flowers and some great views of the valley below.

4. Silver Lake – Big Cottonwood Canyon

Peak bloom: Late June–JulyEasy, accessible, and insanely beautiful. Boardwalk paths make this one stroller- and kid-friendly while delivering serious bloom energy. You’ll see marsh marigolds, shooting stars, and maybe even a hummingbird or two.

5. Mt. Timpanogos – American Fork Canyon

Peak bloom: July–August
This one's a workout, but the payoff is wildflower heaven. Expect big meadows of blooms, waterfalls, and panoramic views that make every switchback worth it. It’s a Utah bucket-list hike for a reason.
